The seat backs are detachable, they have a velcro strip on the back to help keep them in place while the sofa is in use. This makes it easy to clean the seat backs if needed. We just got one of these sofa's in the office today and I liked the way the seat backs were easily removable! You always want to be able to clean your furniture if needed, especially if you have pets or children.
