Decorating Tips - How to Add Color to Your Home?

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

When decorating your home, you will need to think about adding some color. You just need to be careful not to add so much that it looks like a bucket of poster paints spilled in the room.

If you are beginning a new redecorating project, before you start you should decide on your color palate for each room. Generally, it is advised to stick to 2-4 colors per room. From wall paint and carpeting to furniture, you should try to generally keep the main colors within these limits.

Color Palette
You can start to get some ideas for the colors you want to use by looking at furniture pairings in home decor catalogs and on TV shows. Keep in mind that you will want to make sure the colors you choose in your home are 'you'. After all this is where you are going to be living. You should pick a color scheme that you like and that accurately represents your personality.

If you're not the best at mixing and matching colors, you can easily find help. You should be able to go to any home improvement or home décor website and look up color palettes. They often show a series of 2-5 colors that go well together, so you have an idea what colors you can easily blend for a cohesive look.

If your room is already decorated, you can still plan to find the right colors to change the overall room appearance. What pieces of furniture are you going to be keeping in the room? These pieces are now the first colors in that color palette. You will then need to start looking for other colors that will go with those main furniture hues.

In today's world of online shopping, this has gotten so much easier. It used to be that being able to match colors to a piece of furniture would mean you needed to lug the furniture in, or have a really good memory of the exact shades. Today, you can sit in the comfort of your own living room and compare your furniture to paint, carpet, and other furniture colors to easily find the complementary colors online.
